City threat summary

VTBS Suvarnabhumi carries the ASTORISK MODERATE rating due to Thailand's positioning in official assessments, with the U.S. State Department maintaining Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) for Thailand due to risk of unrest.

The FCDO acknowledges that terrorist attacks could take place anywhere in Thailand and could be indiscriminate, including in tourist destinations. Thailand ranks 30th safest among 44 countries surveyed by U.S. travellers according to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection's 2026 assessment.

Country overview

Thailand presents a broadly low-risk environment for most urban and tourist destinations, with the U.S. Department of State rating the country at Level 1 (Exercise Normal Precautions) as of July 2026.

The Bhumjaithai-led coalition government formed after the February 2026 general election under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has restored relative political stability.

Elevated risk is concentrated in the deep-south provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and parts of Songkhla, where an active insurgency continues, and along the Thai-Cambodian border, where land crossings remain suspended following armed clashes.

Travelers staying within mainstream tourist corridors face a materially different risk picture than those near these sub-regional hotspots.
